Vampire Weekend

In a CNN iReporter interview, a fan asked the band for their take on music piracy. After exchanging glances and a few perhaps uncomfortable giggles, Rostam Batmanglij replies:

We all grew up in the age of downloading music illegally, we’re products of that culture. I personally believe that if you want music to be free, then it should be. Because people should do as they feel.

In June 2009, the guys of Vampire Weekend got into legal trouble for a little alleged piracy of their own- though on a larger scale. The woman on the cover of their album Contra claimed – in a $2m lawsuit – that her photo was used without permission by the band and the photographer.
